Bio

My name is Ann Magid-Beale.
I am a high school Social Studies teacher at a small charter school in Ann Arbor, Michigan. I teach 9th grade U.S. History, 10th grade Civics and Economics, and 11th/12th grade World History.
In addition, I am active in my school’s extracurricular activities and committees: I am the lead teacher developer for the middle school and high school yearbook, as well as an adviser for Peer Mediation. I am also the adviser for the student-run Newsletter, and an adviser to Student Council. I also tutor Juniors in Reading for the ACT.
I am on my school’s School Improvement Plan Committee and the RTI team, and am in the process of beginning our school’s first National Honors Society club with a colleague.
I am a graduate of Michigan State University’s Post Bachelor Teacher Certification program, with certifications in Social Studies, History and English. This was a two-year program, and I also earned a minor in English while at MSU.
In 2008, I graduated cum laude from Kalamazoo College with a Bachelor’s degree in History.
Teaching has always drawn me, in part because of several amazing teachers at my high school. They inspired me to work harder to reach my full potential and fostered in me the drive to be a lifelong learner and explorer. I hope to be as great a teacher as they were.
I have been lucky enough to have had several opportunities to travel extensively, which has helped me look at the world through an international lens. I try to bring that experience into my classroom on a daily basis by looking at multiple perspectives and impacts; incorporating geography into lessons; and considering current events.
I have taken and passed the Michigan Teacher Test for Certification (MTTC) in Social Studies, History and English. This makes me highly qualified to teach any of the following classes:
Social Studies (RX) and History (CC):
Social Studies; Economics; Geography; History; Michigan History; Political Science; American Government; U.S. History; Civics; World History; World History and Geography; European History; Western Hemisphere; Eastern Hemisphere; Current Events and Global Studies.
English (BA):
English; Language Arts; Grammar; Writing; Poetry; Literature; Great Books; Shakespeare; Drama (study of literature); Business Writing (offered for English credit); Writing for Publication (i.e. School Newspaper); and Yearbook.
